This is the first year I have volunteered to make blocks for Ovarian Cancer fundraiser. I have been quilting and learning different blocks for the last two years now and I’m hoping I have made something that can be used in the quilt.
Kate has been making these beautiful quilts for many years and I feel privileged to be part of this process.
The four blocks made so far 😍
This looks very blue instead of teal .. so may not be part of the blocks
And here we are again…. A super time of the month…. When we all share our lovely ScrapHappiness 🤗
My post is going to be a short one as we leave in an hour to hit the road again. We are heading to Mundulla in South Australia. It’s 505kms of riding and I don’t think I’ll be in any shape to do any blogging later 😄
This piece is a follow up to the rag quilt I sent my aunt last month. I noticed a cushion sitting on her bed and decided she needed a cover for it.
And I present …..
Having seen a pillow behind the cushion I’m thinking a matching pillow case too …. I have enough scraps for it 🤩
Once upon a time …. In a land far far away …. Oops wrong story …. 🤩
This story is about 7 cushion covers … they were made for the cushions in my lounge… however they were too big for the cushions…. I did use them but only once …. And being big the edges tipped forward like ears 😳… So they sat in my basket 🧺 for a long time … I would NEVER EVER throw them out … so I did the next best thing…. I made it into a foot rug for my bed. I have one cover left over so I can use that to dress up my pillows … A job done ✔️ and I’m very happy 😊 The end …. (Well to this quilt story anyway 😄)
The cushion covers made last year…You can see the floppy ears !! The cushion inserts were filled with batting cut to size & I did FMQ all over & then used the QAYG method to join … A ScrapHappy Rug for the foot of my bed 🥰
ScrapHappy is open to anyone using up scraps of anything – no new materials. It can be a quilt block, pincushion, bag or hat, socks or a sculpture. Anything made of genuine scraps is eligible. If your scrap collection is out of control and you’d like to turn them into something beautiful or useful instead of leaving them to collect dust in the cupboard, why not join us on the 15th of each month? Either email Kate at the address on my Contact Me page. You can also contact Gun via her blog to join. We welcome new members. You don’t have to worry about making a long term commitment or even join in every month, just let either of us know a day or so in advance if you’re new and you’ll have something to show, so we can add your link. Regular contributors will receive an email reminder three days before the event.
Here are the links for everyone who joins ScrapHappy from time to time (they may not post every time, but their blogs are still worth looking at).
My dads brother drove up from Sydney last week (very impressive as he’s 78 years old !) and was here with us for a few days and celebrated my mums birthday with us.
He went home on Thursday and I sent a quilt to my aunt who loves quilts and I have not seen her in over three years!!!!
She rang me this morning and we video chatted as she wanted to show me where she had placed it. I couldn’t believe how perfect it was for the single bed in her spare room … I told her I will make her a matching cushion cover and she’s thrilled 🤩
Nothing like the anticipation of an event or a day.
After finishing another quilt for another friend I’ve just realised it’s about two weeks away from Easter.
As I always love having something new to commemorate the occasion every year …. I want to carry on that tradition this year again.
Again nothing better than handmade. So out came the box with my fabric to see what I may have in Easter colours.
I have yellow….purple… and a combination of both …
So I got cutting and stitching to see what the cushion covers for my lounge would look like. There will be a matching table runner with the left over fabrics.
A preview 🤩
Once the seven covers and table runner is on I’ll post again 😍
The meaning of the word Dhusar is Grey. There’s essentially two shades of grey in the prints that I picked up.
It’s a quilt I’m in the process of making for my daughters friend. She saw the one I had made my daughter & asked if I could make her one too.
All she said was she wanted it in Grey. As the colour pallet is so close I’ve added white into it. Once quilted I will join the blocks with white and bind with white as well. That should throw the grey out well…. I’m hoping.
